Time's runnin' out!

Area D belonged to John Morin Scott before and after the American revolution. In 1904, Adolph S Ochs who was the publisher of a famous daily newspaper Y, moved Y's operations to area D, thus changing D's name to X. The commercial growth of X increased drastically as the growth of the city it's in-M continued. James Traub, a contributing writer for Y had this to say about X - "X quickly became M's agora, a place to gather to await great tidings and to celebrate them, whether a World Series or a presidential election.".Well he didn't say M or X...but you get the point. Identify D, Y, X, and M.
